You
might recall that three a and a half years ago, I became the owner of the SpookCentral.tk domain name and started using it as Spook Central's main url. While that domain name fundamentally works, and I have been using it for 20-25 years - albeit as a free name owned by someone else for most of that time - all .tk names are problematic. In short, when it was free 20-25 years ago,
everyone got one, including a bunch of nogoodniks. As such, the entire .tk top-level domain (TLD) has ended up in some spam lists.
With that in mind, it just seemed better to get a new "untainted" domain name as the canonical name for Spook Central. Since I can't afford $5,000 for SpookCentral.com, I went with
SpookCentral.us. It seems respectable. I mean, Zoom uses it (zoom.us), so it can't be considered "bad", right? Also, if you haven't heard, the United States is celebrating its 250th anniversary... birthday... quinceanera next month, so .us seemed timely, too.
If you come to Spook Central from the old .tk url, you will still end up in the right place. For now, we have no intention of getting rid of it. I have been using the .tk name for 20-25 years now, so there is probably a large footprint of links still out there. It will just be a secondary "hush hush" url, while
SpookCentral.us will be the official canonical url.
Eternal thanks to Raffaele Ruffaldi for hosting Spook Central over the past 25 years and for all of the technical support in setting this up.
