Netflix's Ghostbusters: Night Shift Show Details

Sony will be launching a new animated series entitled Ghostbusters: Night Shift on Netflix sometime in 2027. Details about the show have were revealed to the public recently. Read on to learn more...
A few weeks ago, on June 6th, the title and logo were revealed outside the firehouse in New York City by executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who were joined by showrunners Ben Hibbon and Elliott Kalan.
The logo is, in my personal option, a rather ugly mess. (It is available in several large sizes on the Spook Central Patreon page.)

The first time I saw it, I was instantly reminded of this parody cover from a 2014 WWE.com photo gallery, as detailed in my The Ghostbusters 'n' Wrestling Connection article. So, yeah, for some reason Sony decided to give the logo gold grillz... and turn the mouth upside down. Also, gangrene has started to set in on the logo's right hand. Someone get Mooglie some medical attention... STAT!

Yesterday, June 24th, Sony Animation (along with the Ghostbusters and Netflix socials) revealed the show's logline...
New York City, 1994. Five years after the Ghostbusters took the Statue of Liberty for a walk, a new supernatural threat hits the Big Apple. Now, a group of scrappy New Yorkers must suit up, face their fears, and bust some ghosts....and two images. The first is a screenshot from the series of a Buster facing off against a giant fiery ghost conductor while an innocent bystander dangles precariously nearby.
The second image is a piece of concept art showing the entire new crew of Busters from behind, while someone (a kid member?) plays with a "Terror Puppy" on the left side in the distance.
The crew behind the show were a part of the Netflix panel at the Annecy festival yesterday, where they revealed lots of details about the show. The following notes have been taken from the reports by What's on Netflix and The Wrap.
- Set in 1994, during the original mayorial run of Walter Peck, the series will both be in canon and fill in the gap between Ghostbusters II and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The original crew has disbanded, leaving New York City vulnerable to a brand new spectral cataclysm.
- Like Netflix's Stranger Things: Tales From '85, which was also animated by Australian studio Flying Bark, the characters in Ghostbusters: Night Shift have a slightly sculptural feel, with pushed, extremely readable characterizations. One image shown to Annecy attendees was of Ray's Occult Books.
- The new heroes will move into the iconic Tribeca firehouse, though it's seen better days. To accurately reflect 1990s New York City, the team utilized a tactile, grimy, "DIY punk" visual filter.
- Kalan proudly introduced the 1994 lineup: Belladonna (the goth), Mitzi (the punk), Zoe (the kid), Travis (the con man), and Mike (the scientist). There was an extra character, which seemingly was quickly skipped over, which I think I caught was Zephr. Despite their one-word labels, the showrunners stressed that these characters have deeply three-dimensional personalities, which heavily influenced their visual designs. (Paul's Note: This group sounds a bit "extreme".)
- Zoe - Described by Kalan as "our adorable kid who's also a real wise-ass, really gets on my nerves."
- Travis - "A charming, petty criminal who needs to be charismatic and cool, but also kind of a loser." Jack Quaid is the voice artist.
- Mike - "Our engineer and tech wizard, he needs to be a scientific genius who also exudes warmth and emotional inner strength."
- Mitzi - "A badass riot girl who jumps headfirst into action, but is also extremely protective of her sister, Zephyr."
- The Terror Puppy is designed to look exactly like the classic, demonic Terror Dogs from the original film. This little guy is playful, rambunctious, and adorable. "When he pees on things, they burst into flame. A puppy, you know," joked Kalan. (Paul's Note: Sounds like he's the "Pet Slimer" of the show.)
- Our broke heroes are utilizing stripped-down, half-working prototypes left behind by the original crew. Some highlights include:
- Proton Packs - Featuring a low-tech energy beam that is "random and angular in shape, kind of unstable in its feet."
- A DIY PKE Meter - Built using spare parts from a Sony PlayStation 1!
- The Ghost Drive - Modified with recycled skateboard wheels, a spinning mirror mechanism, and bass/guitar pedals.
- Ecto-94 - Operating without permission to use Ecto-1, the team drives a gently pre-used van customized with spray paint and a "spinning roof turret for some precarious Ghostbusting on the go."
- Some of the threats name-dropped included a "Poison Demon" residing in the Hopscotch Hellhole, a Class IV malicious sludge known as the "Rot Monster," and a "Grabby Hands" Reflector Ghost.
- To cap off the segment, the audience was treated to an exclusive work-in-progress clip from Episode 2, where Travis tracks down an entranced Zoe to Grand Central Station. Things quickly go sideways as they are attacked by a terrifying Class III semi-corporeal anchored spirit - a demonic "Ticket-Taker" Ghost who tries to kidnap Zoe for a mysterious entity known as the "Nightwalker." The Wrap notes that "it is somewhat shocking just how intense the footage was. It was actually scary."
[UPDATE - 6/26/2026]
Two new interviews with the creative team conducted at the Annecy festival were just posted by Deadline and Polygon, so go check them out. I guess that wasn't all for now :-)
